This Week In Rugby 🏉
🤕 Heading For Trouble? A new research study by the University of South Wales has concluded that only one season of professional rugby can have a negative impact on both blood flow to brain and cognitive function. World Rugby has commented that it welcomes new research and that they are “committed to double our investment in player welfare and new concussion research and initiatives.”
🌏 New Names In The Pacific? It has been announced that “Super Rugby Pacific” will start on February 18. Not only will it feature sides from Australia and New Zealand but also Fijian Drua and Moana Pasifika - it is the first time the Pacific Islands have had sides in Super Rugby.
🏏 That’s Not Cricket? Cardiff and Wales Flanker James Botham will miss the start of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery. He is aiming to return to action in November, putting his chances of featuring in the Autumn Internationals in jeopardy.
🎯 Attack Revamp? Scotland have added South African Alan-Basson Zondagh to their coaching team as Attack Coach. He joins from Toulouse following their French and European Championship double-winning season.
🦅 New Eagle On The Hill? Japanese side Yokohama Canon Eagles have confirmed the signing of Wales Lock Cory Hill. With only 32 caps the move means he will no longer be eligible to play for Wales under the 60-cap rule.
🐉 From Tiger To Dragon? Jordan Olowofela has signed for the Dragons on a season-long loan deal from Leicester Tigers.
